Real quick entry today, everyone's getting into the swing of things as we continue our story The Jungle Book!

Jake keeps his eye on the target during bocce.
This summer our class has been learning some fun summer games in our physical education class! We have done kickball and bean-bag toss so far, and this week the kids learned to play bocce. First we throw the smaller ball out into the grass and the students take turns seeing who can get their colored ball the closest.

The Mighty Jungle...

Welcome back to the blog everyone! it seems like heat has finally broken, which means we can get back outside and play!

Mason shakes his maraca to the beat.
Last friday we ended our week with an exciting Zumba class! One of the volunteers led our students in a fun dance and excercise routine, we marched around the room and shook our maracas in time with the music.

Alliet moving to the music.
We also worked on our new art project to continue the Jungle book theme. The children started painting paper plates grey so that we can turn them into elephant masks. Along with our tiger puppets and monkey and bear masks, we've got quite a variety of different jungle animals in our room.

The entire class works hard to get our masks painted.

Our favorite therapy dog Buddy visited us again today, We played fetch and took him for a walk, we learned that when it is hot out it's very important to give Buddy lots of water.

Alliet tells Buddy to "sit".
There's plenty more exciting news to come so stay tuned. Be sure to check back in on Thursday for more updates and pictures!

In The Jungle...

Hello again everyone! as the week continues on, the temperature just keeps on rising. Along with the high humidity, its feeling quite "jungle like" outside!
Riley shows off the jungle decorations.
In fact, the classroom is transforming into a jungle right before our eyes! With vines, monkeys, palm trees and even a giant frog, Our room is going through quite a few changes.

Also this week, we talked about the tiger Shere Kahn, the mean tiger in The Jungle Book that does not approve of a man cub living in the jungle. Our art project was to make our own tigers using paper bags and construction paper, and they turned out great!
Hunter and Benny playing with their puppets.
We also worked hard on our vocabulary words this week by matching up pictures of Jungle Book characters with the correct words, which were located throughout the room.

Alliet shows off some great work matching vocabulary words.

Tomorrow our students will be having a great time dancing and exercising in our Zumba time for Fun Friday! be sure to check back in on Tuesday for more updates from the Jungle!

Summer is in full swing!

Jake and Jenna prepare to take off on the helicopter ride

Ben and Hunter having a blast at the fair.

Summer is officially here! the temperature is rising but our class is staying cool. Last week, we had a great time on our trip to the Monroe County Fair! We beat the heat and enjoyed a day of rides, games, and a visit to the different animals that where on display.

On Tuesday, Buddy the therapy dog came to visit our class. Students took him on a walk, played fetch and gave him plenty of treats.

Also, our class has volunteered to help maintain our sunflower garden, which is located right outside of our classroom window. Every Tuesday, it is our classes responsibility to make sure the sunflowers are watered and healthy.

welcome to the blog!

Hello parents, friends, associates, and faithful followers!

Welcome to the official blog of katie kovalls primary class!
This summer our team consists of our new teacher Ms. Ashley Brass
our wonderful classroom aide Kathi Kaiser
1:1 aide Caroline Montfort
and 1:1 aide Daniel Keihl

This summer our school wide initiative is to promote literacy in preparation for the opening of our new library. Each class is picking a story to read and discuss throughout the summer, and our class has chosen the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. The story focuses on a young boy who was found alone in the jungle, and was rescued and brought to live amongst the animals. We are learning to indentify twenty vocabulary words that go along with our story. Here are just a few; Monkey, Jungle, Village, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Boy and many more... a complete list was sent home to study.

Please be sure to follow us and check back in for more exciting updates (including pictures)!
